New Years Resolutions Everyone Should Have

New Years is a time when everyone starts making New Years resolutions.... eat less... exercise more... shop less.... I have to admit that these have been my resolutions for years and no matter what I do I always feel I could have done better. To avoid disapointment don't set yourself up for failure. If your goal seems to large... maybe it is- take baby steps. The more impossible your goal seems the more unlikely you are to accomplish it.

Here are some New Years resolutions that I think everyone should have. You don't need to wait until the start of another year... or even another week. These are little things that you can start now!!

1) Stop and smell the roses- Often we get so busy that we don't take the time to really enjoy the small things. Take a walk around your neighbourhood, try a yoga class or simply stop and smell the roses. We can learn a lot about the children in our lives. No matter how busy a child is in their daily activity they can stop what they are doing to appreciate something small like the clouds in the sky or the smell of a rose.

2) Learn something new- this can be something as challenging as learning a whole new language or as simple as learning how to cook a new meal. Our brains like to be challenged daily.

3) Forgive and Forget- It is the start of a new year. What better time to forget the past and forgive the people who have hurt or wronged you in the past. Starting a new year holding a grudge is only going to make yourself unhappy. Now is the best time to rid yourself of any negative energy and people who don't have your best interests at heart.

4) Daily Small Acts of Kindness- Do something nice for someone else at least once a day! You can write a note to your loved one thanking them for doing the dishes, hold open a door, ask a stranger how their day is going... these little acts can mean a great deal for someone!

5) Laugh more- Bring out your inner child! Don't be afraid to be silly.... People make mistakes.... don't be afraid to laugh at yourself in these situations. Bottom line is people who laugh more enjoy their lives more.

Happy 2014 Everyone!!!
